Sound from nothingness
ongoing performance series, various dates and sites
Since 2022, I've been having a growing interest in the concept of resonance and the sound from 'nothingness'.
Through a series of happenings at various sites, predominantly using ‘non-instrument’ and the body, I'm looking at the concept and incarnation of 'resonance' in different shapes and forms.
Resonance can refer to the quality in a sound of being deep, full, and reverberating; metaphorically it refers to the power to evoke enduring images, memories, and emotions.
Resonance is caused by the shared wavelength between two, either psychologically or physically.
Resonance is the reinforcement or prolongation of sound by reflection from a surface or by the synchronous vibration of a neighbouring object. When the intensity of reflection exceeds a level it becomes the annoying, sharp, and piecing 'feedback'.
The production of resonance requires an empty vessel. Anything can be turned into an instrument given an adequate balance of air and emptiness.
Iterations:
Feb 2022, Hundred Year Gallery, London
Nov 2022, MAO (Museum of Oriental Art), Turin, as part of Evolving soundscapes
May 2023, Onomatopee, Eindhoven
Nov 2023, Tai Kwun Contemporary
Material used include flower, green plant, paint, found paper roll, empty boxes, plastic cup, clock, water and various found objects from the site.
