Speakers are not only a tool to transmit some ‘pure’ content.
The choice of a small speaker dictates the spectatorship between us and the audience. It is the physicalisation of sound and vibration.
With a series of sonic happenings, Mengting Zhuo and Li Song explore a new way of sound making. Departing from conventional methods, the duo utilises portable speakers instead of PA systems, a choice that allows them to delve into the complex dynamics between performers, spectators, and the surrounding space.
The collision of Zhuo's live art background and Song's experimental music practice results in a dynamic interplay of found objects, subtle movements, and unexpected sonic textures. This collision of disciplines amplifies the tension and creates a unique dialogue, pushing the boundaries of both fields.

Live performance at Iklectik Art Lab We used portable speakers, handy recorders, simple microphones, snare drums and various objects to explore the resonance in household containers, at the site, on the snare drum wires, and between the two performers. With a very minimalist set-up one can still create a very complex system. |

Site-specific live score at Thames Beach Pop-up, improvised act exploring the resonance of water, rhythm of the tide, between the sea and the shore. Using material from the site, stones from Thames beach. We retreated as soon as we finished the performance, before the tide submerged us. |
